Junior Hardball U10 – U17

This is hardball cricket.  All junior and youth cricket is determined by the child’s age as at 1st April 2022.  Playing conditions depend on the grade of cricket.

Under 10 – Under 12 T20 Smash (Ages 8 to 12 years)

  • U10, U11 and U12 T20 Smash games are predominately played on Saturday mornings from 9:30am.  There are exceptions where games may be played on Friday evenings or Saturday morning starting at 8:30am.  Auckland Cricket may need to make changes with short notice due to unforeseen circumstances, the club however will do its best to communicate any changes to teams affected as soon as possible.
  • Cancellations will be advised by your team manager or coach on game day. Cancellations, once confirmed, will also announced on the Auckland Cricket website and their Facebook page.
  • Games are played Home and Away
  • U10, U11 and U12 teams play with a Kookaburra White Commander 142g ball.
  • Players are required to play in their correct grade as per their age as at 1st April 2022.  There are exceptions for players who have exceptional skills.  Players may be able to play one grade up.  Dispensation is required from Auckland Cricket and their decision is final.  This includes players who wish to play down.
  • Players who play up a grade for U12 may be required to play two seasons of U12.  U13 is only a pre Christmas option.  Most U13 players either play post Christmas for their college or play U15 for their club.  The U15 competition is not ideal for young players playing up.

Under 13 & U15 (Ages 12 to 14 years) Half Season

  • The U13 season is only played pre Christmas.  The option to play U13 is only available to players who are in Year 8.
  • Options available post Christmas to players is either to continue to play for the club in a post Christmas U15 team or the Kumeu – College Composite team or their school team.

  • U15 T20 Smash games are played on Saturday afternoons from 1pm.   Auckland Cricket may need to make changes with short notice due to unforeseen circumstances, the club however will do its best to communicate any changes to teams affected as soon as possible. 
  • Cancellations will be advised by your team manager or coach on game day. Cancellations, once confirmed, will also announced on the Auckland Cricket website and their Facebook page.
  • Games are played Home and Away
  • U15 teams will play with a Kookaburra Pink Crown 156g ball.

Kumeu – College Composite Team (Ages 13 – 18 years)

  • Kumeu Cricket Club along with Kaipara College offers an option to play High School Cricket through College Sport in a college composite team.
  • This allows our Year 9 – Year 12 boys to be able to continue to play cricket with their friends and also remain affiliated to the club – even though they go to different school.
  • If your school offers cricket but you wish to still play for the Kumeu Composite team all you would need to do is request your principal sign a Composite Form giving you permission to play for the Kumeu team.  You will be unable to play for the Kumeu team until the form has been signed, returned to the club and approved by College Sport. Clothing

Clothing requirements

All hardball players are required to wear a Kumeu Club Shirt, pants and cap or floppy.  Pants can either be black or the Kumeu Cricket Club pants which are green and black.

Gear Requirements

Kumeu Cricket Club will provide each team with a gear bag with the following protective gear
  • Pads – both batting and wicket keeping
  • Gloves – both batting and wicket keeping
  • Helmets 
  • Thigh Guards
  • Arm Guards
Players are welcome to use their own gear.

Things to note:

  • Kumeu cricket practices a “common sense” health and safety approach and ask that parents and caregivers participate in the carrying out of this through supervision of their players while at the club, training and playing cricket.
  • As per the New Zealand Cricket Helmet Policy and Kumeu Cricket Policy it is mandatory for all junior cricketers are to wear a helmet when batting.  This includes practice sessions.
  • The wicketkeeper is required to wear a helmet when keeping within 5m of the stumps.
  • A fielder who is fielding in close within 7m of the stumps (excluding behind the wicket on the off side) is required to wear a helmet.
  • Players should wear a box when batting and wicketkeeping.  For hygiene reasons the club does not provide these.  A box can be purchased from any sports store including Rebel Sports, Cricket Express or Players Sports.
