Enrolments (Under 10 & 11):
This season All junior and youth cricket has moved from from school year grades to age determined grades ,determined by the child’s age as at 1st April 2020. Enrolments for Under 10 & 11 for the 2019-20 seasons are now open and will close on 30th September 2019. Teams will be advised in mid October. However, players may enroll after the close off date depending on available team places. Please contact the club if you wish to enroll your child after the close off date. While there are Girl only grades based on last season player numbers Kumeu is restricted from currently offering a girl’s only team so girls are encouraged to play in a mixed team until playing numbers permit a “Girls Only” team. Teams in Under 10 & 11 are selected to provide a mix of abilities and schools as much as possible. Kumeu cricket will do our utmost to accommodate team mate requests within these guidelines, usually with highly successful outcomes. However, we can offer no guarantees and appreciate your understanding that not all requests can be met.
Teams (8-a-side) play in the Saturday morning competition. The 20 over, T20 games are approx. 2 1/2 hours long.
In under 10 it is the first season children play with a junior size white Hard Ball (142g). The children play in a minimum 15 balls faced format to ensure all players get an equal share of batting time when they are out batters change ends ,each player bowls a minimum of two overs. Under 10 & 11 have mid-week practice sessions organised by their Parent Coach at a time that suits. In addition the Club will schedule the Director of cricket to assist with this regular team net coaching session’s .A coaching schedule for each team will be posted at the start of the season. All team parent coaches are encouraged to attend ACA Coach Qualification programmes. Details of these will be advised throughout the season.
The 2018-19 playing season for Under 10 & 11 is as follows:
Start date: Saturday 2nd November 2019
Last playing day before Christmas: Saturday 14th December 2019
Restart post Christmas: Saturday 1st February 2020
Final playing day for season: Saturday 21st March 2019
Saturday games start at 9.30am (9 am arrival). We recommend that children bring a snack and drink to help energy levels.
Team manager will advise of game day cancellations, junior grade cancellations are posted on ACA website
Playing uniform – playing gear:
Children must wear the Kumeu Cricket Club polo shirt & KCC Cap which can be ordered at registration and collected from clubrooms plus Suitable footwear, such as sneakers, should be worn. Black long pants are to be worn as these are often more comfortable when wearing cricket pads. A sunhat is essential. It is the Club’s policy is that all players wear a cricket helmet when batting and suggest that they acquire their own helmet to ensure best fit as well as a ‘box’ now they are playing with a hardball.
Helmet’s and all other required cricket equipment is provided in a team gear bag although many children start investing in some of their own gear by this age.
