Junior Grades

Superstars (Ages 4 to 6 years)

Superstar cricket is the entry level into cricket.  It is best suited to boys and girls aged 4 – 6 years old (School years 0 – 2) and designed to help participants learn the basics of cricket in a suitable enviroment. Older children are welcome to join at this level if they are new to cricket but we also cater for ‘new to cricket’ players in the older grades.

The programme is built around a series of different skill modules and games to provide a fun and varied programme each week. Experience has shown us that children of this age do not have the attention span to play full games of cricket. They not only enjoy this varied programme more but also better learn fundamental skills to prepare them for games in Kiwi Grade. The sessions are run by Kumeu’s Superstar coaches. All parents are encouraged to help, when they can, in these weekly sessions. Children get far more out of sport when their parents or caregivers become involved.

Sessions are run on Fridays from 5:30pm – 6:30pm during season. Parent assistance is appreciated. If you are able to assist please kindly let us know.

Kiwi Grade / Softball (Ages 6 to 9 years)

Kiwi Grade cricket is suitable for players both boys and girls in school years three to four. Teams in Kiwi Grades are selected to provide a mix of abilities and schools as much as possible. Kiwi Grade is the step before you move onto hardball cricket.

Players are placed in teams of 8. This will be their team for the season. Players will play a game each week based on basic playing conditions which will revolve around fun. All players will have the opportunity to bat, bowl and field including wicketkeeping in each game.

Teams will require parent support for coaches, umpires, scorers and managers. These tasks can easily be done by one or two parents or shared around. Training sessions are run by the parent coach and can be set up during the week or prior to the game.

Games are run on Fridays from 5pm – 6:30pm during season.

Under 10 – Under 12 (Ages 8 to 12 years)

This is hardball cricket.  All junior and youth cricket is determined by the child’s age as at 1st April 2021.  Playing conditions depend on the grade of cricket.

Under 13 (Ages 12 to 14 years)

To be confirmed

High School Club Cricket (Ages 13 – 18 years)

Kumeu Cricket Club along with Kaipara College offers an option to play High School Cricket through College Sport in a school composite team.  This allows our U13 – U17 boys to be able to continue to play cricket with their friends and also remain affiliated to the club – even though they go to different school.

Mid week T20 (Ages 12 – 18 years)

Kumeu Cricket Club runs an internal midweek T20 competion between our U12, U13 and Kaipara / Kumeu Composit Junior and Senior teams.

Girls cricket

While there are Girl only grades based on last season player numbers Kumeu is restricted from currently offering a girl’s only team so girls are encouraged to play in a mixed team until playing numbers permit a “Girls Only” team. Teams in Under 10 & 11 are selected to provide a mix of abilities and schools as much as possible.  Kumeu Cricket Club does offer a Premier Reserve Ladies team for young confident girls who wish to play within a ladies team.
